TRAIL RIDE FOR ST. JUDE
MAY 2009 UPDATES

The fourth annual St. Jude Cowboy Musical Weekend and Trail Ride is being hosted by Calico Junction Mule Ranch in Hohenwald on May 8, 9, and 10th 2009.
For those that attended in the past you can continue to enjoy the fabulous beef brisket and BBQ chicken from the Kaiser’s Grill. NEW! Marilyn Reynolds authentic chuck wagon cooking is also being featured this year.
A retired caterer from Dickson County, Ms. Reynolds concocts such authentic delights which will be on the menu such as Buckaroo Stew (hearty beef stew), Buckshot Beans (pinto beans and ham), Fried Baloney, Sausage Dogs, Hot Dogs, Fried Pies and Donuts in her iron skillets over an open campfire. Come watch and learn as Marilyn demonstrates outdoor dutch oven and campfire cooking.
Come enjoy the wonderful Music! You don’t have to have a horse to have a good time. Coming for just the music is okay. Friday is Gospel night. Under the spotlight we will have gospel singers Kim Livingston, Bonnie Bishop, Jim and Misty Boyd. On Saturday we will have Cody Lee, Kenny Durham, Forrest Lee and the list goes on. Cowboy poetry with Woody Woodruff the famous world-wide unknown cowboy poet.
Gates open on Friday at noon at the Calico Junction Mule Ranch. Live bands on stage, Friday and Saturday. Cowboy Church on Sunday at 10am. Bringyour lawn chairs. Free primitive camping. Many vendors on site. Cleo Edwards of Amusement Rides and Games will be here once again to help entertain the children. Events include Extreme Trail Horse Race; poker run; auctions; Noavel headstall Training with World-Class professional horse trainer, Rick Wheat; a chance to win a mule; and much more family fun.
Our demonstration this year will be focused on Rick Wheat a World-Class Professional Horse Trainer/Instructor/Inventor of the Noavel Headstall.
Noavel Headstall Training with World-Class Professional Horse Trainer, Rick Wheat will prove to be fun & exciting, with interesting educational topics that will be beneficial for horse-owners of all ages to feel confident in using a bit-less training technique that encourages good behaviors, calmness, with a more willing horse that is focused, relaxed and ready to learn, while correcting any problem behaviors.
Rick Wheat received three awards from the Humane Society that stated that “The Rick Wheat Noavel Headstall” is The Most Humane Safety Device for controlling an un-ruly Horse. Rick Received one award from a division called AR-TEX Animal Welfare Association located in Arkansas & Texas, one from the(National) Blue Bonnet Equine Humane Society Located in Texas, and the last in Alberta, Canada.
Rick developed this New Way of Life approach to training horses through endless hours of trial and error, perfecting his US Patented # US 6,643,999 B1 training tool known as the Rick Wheat Noavel Headstall which can be used on horses of all breeds and disciplines, plus it has proven to work really well on show cattle, with the children having so much more control of their livestock.

No event is complete without the help from our vendors. Tim Hill of Valley Tack has a wide selection of horse tack; Anna Whitworth of From Earth to Art hand makes pottery using horse or dog hair that you provide; Carolynn Neeley of Southern Spool with embroideries; Nancy Burdett with leather crafts; plus more.
Bring your horse to join the trail ride on 100 miles of well-marked scenic trails on over 2500 acres of hardwoods, pines, valleys, mountains, meadows, streams and waterfalls. Four-legged transportation is available for rent from Calico Junction Ranch, call (931) 796-4111 or (615) 268-6269.
The event supports the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, so donations are appreciated. The money raised goes to the cancer research center to help in finding cures for cancer.

We Need Volunteers!
If you have a saddle club group that would like to come and ride the trails and stay for primative camping give us a call, Will trade riding/camping for working.
If you are an individual and just want to come and help please give us a call.
- Taking flyers and information to your area, getting the "Word" out there
- Work Day Volunteers, preparing grounds, setting up!
- Day of the Event, TOO NUMEROUS TO MENTION, but including gate workers, registration booth, information booth, games, food area, crowd control, parking, and the list goes on.
- Attend meetings, WE NEED YOUR INPUT!
