Man and the horse have shared a relationship for millions of years. In the beginning, horse provided man with a source of food. Later, man used horses for military purposes, in agriculture, for selling and trading, and for recreation and sport.
The horse's role in the development of America should not be underestimated. The horse pulled the wagons west. They were your main source of transportation, they were irreplaceable in the handling of livestock, and carried the mail. Racing and rodeos furnished a lot of excitement and pleasure for man.
Even though today the use of the horses as a source of power has been reduced because of machines, they are still used in many areas. In some states ranchers have not found a replacement for the cow horse. In some logging and small farming areas draft horses and mules are still used.
